Athletics
JDC West features a two-day athletics competition where co-ed teams of eight compete in two sports. Since 2023, Tchoukball has served as the flagship sport, allowing for consistent, year-over-year performance comparison, while a second sport is selected annually by the host school—Boccer for 2027.
Athletics adds a unique dimension to the competition, giving participants the opportunity to build teamwork, communication, and leadership in a fast-paced, active environment beyond the academic setting.
Challenge
Over the competition weekend, Challenge competitors (known as Challengers) step into fast-paced, high-energy activities that push them beyond their comfort zones. Working in teams of four, they learn to think on their feet, communicate with confidence, and rely on one another to navigate each challenge.
From real-world scenarios to off-site experiences, every challenge is an opportunity to grow. It’s where leadership is built, teamwork is tested, and individuals discover what they’re truly capable of.

Debate
JDC West features a parliamentary debate competition where each school sends a team of four students to compete. With only 30 minutes to prepare, teams must quickly analyze a resolution and build compelling arguments before stepping into the debate.
Following a traditional parliamentary format, teams are assigned as either the Government or the Opposition, challenging them to think critically, adapt quickly, and communicate with confidence under pressure.
