SFU JDC West

Competition. Camaraderie. Community.

More than a moment.

This isn’t defined by a single moment, but by the journey it took to get here. The effort, the resilience, and the people who stood beside us every step of the way.

About SFU JDC West

JDC West is the most prestigious undergraduate business competition in Western Canada. It brings together over 1,300 attendees and 600+ delegates from twelve leading post-secondary institutions each year, including SFU. Four areas that test every aspect of business excellence

ACADEMICS

Across JDC West’s 10 core academic competitions, teams of three students step into each discipline to unpack a complex case, develop their strategy, and prepare their recommendations.

ATHLETICS

JDC West includes a two-day athletics competition where co-ed teams of eight compete in two sports. Tchoukball serves as the flagship event for year-over-year comparison, while a second sport chosen by the host committee will be Boccer for 2027.

CHALLENGE

Over the competition weekend, Challengers work in teams of four to complete a series of challenges that test communication, teamwork, and quick thinking under pressure, while developing strong public speaking and collaboration skills.

DEBATE

JDC West includes a parliamentary debate competition where each school fields a team of four students. Teams are given 30 minutes to prepare arguments before debating a proposed resolution, competing in a structured format as either the Government or the Opposition.

Charity Highlights

JDC West places a strong emphasis on community impact through its charity initiatives, bringing together students from across Western Canada to give back beyond the competition.

Over the year, the team contributed more than 7,000 volunteer hours and raised over $23,500 for partner charities, including the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, Covenant House, the Canadian Cancer Society, and the BC Cancer Foundation.
